If you have been refused from CEGEP, don't despair!
Take a look at the explanations and recommendations below to better understand how you can get the ball rolling again.
SRAM Reasons - What do they mean?
- Inadequate School Grades - self-explanatory; CEGEPs look at certain courses depending on the program you applied to
- Insufficient Prerequisites - you haven’t completed or aren’t registered in specific math or science courses needed for the program you applied to
- Inadequate Schooling - missing a graduation requirement, CEGEP can’t tell if you’ll be eligible to attend
- Not Enough Space - you’re fabulous, there’s just too many of you.
SRAM: What to do next?
Round 2
- Be strategic
- Check available programs - get in and transfer later
- Try another CEGEP
- Try a French CEGEP
- Send additional info./improved grades (update Complementary Letter)
- Be honest with yourself
- Talk to your Guidance Counsellor - They'll be honest with you, and help you get on track to get in
Round 3 (March 1st Only)
- Be extremely strategic
- College Integration (4 evening courses, no tuition, study techniques)
- Evening credit courses in Continuing Education - everything counts
- Always easier to get into a program from within the/any CEGEP
- Contact your Guidance Counsellor for more strategies
Dawson College
- Refused from First Choice, application automatically sent to Second Choice
- If no Second Choice? Contact Dawson quickly to add one
- Often gives answers after SRAM
- If it seems to be taking longer than others who have been accepted to the same program, probably looking at Second Choice.
Dawson: What to do next?
- Evening DEC Programs in Social Science and Science
- Offer of admission for Evening DEC extended during the admission period, up to you to confirm, just like day programs
- EXCELLENT option for Adult Ed. students; No tuition, etc.
- Evening credit courses in Continuing Education
- Always easier to get into a program from within the/any CEGEP
Other Options
- Private CEGEPs - Centennial, Lasalle, O’Sullivan, TAV…
- More Adult Education - prerequisites, missing modules, etc.
- Vocational/Trade Programs
- Continuing Education AEC (Vocational and Professional) programs at all CEGEPs - ECE, Computer/IT; Business, Design…
- Often same as regular CEGEP, no Gen. Eds., must be 18
- Travel, work, get to know yourself better, clarify your goals
- University - Mature student entry
Keep Positive!
- You’re still the same wonderful person you were before
- Sometimes a blessing in disguise
- Objective to get in and stay in - college success, not admission
- Take your time to do things right
- It doesn’t matter what you do in CEGEP, you’ll figure out what you want to do later anyway. And if you really want a career in ‘X’, waiting won’t change anything (except how much smarter you’ll be!)
